John P Sousa Award - Ths award is the pinnacle of achievement in a high school band. Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band, the John Philip Sousa Band Award® recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication.
Louis Armstrong Award - Louis Armstrong was the epitome of jazz as a trumpeter, singer, and band leader. His imaginative, simple style led the way for others and changed the course of jazz. His phenomenal skill dazzled audiences around the world. Lucille Armstrong, his wife in later years, described his love for people. "Louis's greatest personality traits were humility and generosity...He just loved people, and he always tried to understand them too...He was compassionate, generous, and understanding with everyone...He was loved, not only for his style, but as a person as well."The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was introduced in 1974 with the approval of his widow, Lucille Armstrong, to honor outstanding jazz students. At New Trier High School the recipients of this award are seniors who are selected by a vote among all jazz ensemble seniors.
PLU NW Honor Band - The Northwest High School Honor Bands will feature music performed by approximately 250 of the finest high school musicians from Idaho, Oregon and Washington. These outstanding high school students are recommended for participation in the event by their high school band directors and the concert is a culmination of two days of intense rehearsals with guest clinicians.

WMEA Honor Band - The WMEA All-State Band, Orchestra, Choir, Jazz Band and Jazz Choir take place during President's Day weekend every year. These honor groups are held in conjunction with the biennial WMEA state conference, which is in Yakima every two years. Students are selected by taped auditions and then sent their music approximately six weeks prior to the event. Auditions for this group are in October. Students must be in grades 9-12 and participating in a school music group comparable to the one for which they are auditioning. Members of the honor groups are housed commercially in the host city, with meals and transportation within the community provided during their stay. Nationally recognized conductors are brought in to work with the students during their intensive four-day experience.
NAFME NW Honor Band - The All-Northwest Band, Orchestra, Choir, Jazz Band and Jazz Choir take place during President's Day weekend of odd-numbered years. These honor groups are held in conjunction with the biennial Northwest Division conference of MENC: the National Association for Music Education. Students are selected by taped auditions and then sent their music approximately six weeks prior to the event. Auditions for this group are in October. Students must be in grades 9-12 and participating in a school music group comparable to the one for which they are auditioning. Members of the honor groups are housed commercially in the host city, with meals and transportation within the community provided during their stay. Nationally recognized conductors are brought in to work with the students during their intensive four-day experience.
WIBC Honor Band - Western Internation Band Clinic Honor Band takes place in mid-November of each year. This honor group is held in conjunction with the WIBC Band Director's Convention in Seatac, Washington. Students are selected by recorded Smartmusic auditions either at home or at school. These auditions are done in October. Members of the honor groups are housed commercially, with meals and transportation within Seatac provided during their stay. Nationally recognized conductors are brought in to work with the students during their intensive four-day experience.
